Castle

Congratulations to Cheryl Casting! You are the winner of The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie by Jennifer Ashley. I’ll be sending you an e-mail for your snail mail address.

This time I’m going to give away Annie Solomon’s Dead Ringer. A wonderfully suspenseful read, ladies! To be eligible for the drawing, you must type in your email address. I’ll also add you to my newsletter for updates on all the fun stuff and releases, too. I’ll announce the winner on my next blog!

Have you been watching the TV show Castle with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic? I don’t watch a lot of network TV. The commercials, we don’t have a TiVo or the like so I have to watch or remember to tape, etc, etc. And yeah, sometimes the shows are just crap. If they aren’t crap, hubby and I prefer to watch them when they come out on DVD (Yay, Netflix!). Even The Office, which we love, yup, we wait a whole year to get the DVD (okay, okay, I watched the wedding episode, but that was it). Of course, with The Office, they have all the deleted scenes on the DVD, and those deleted scenes have a LOT of stuff that really explains the show, too. But I digress, I was supposed to be talking about Castle. I love Nathan Fillion. First saw him as the evil (hot and sexy) Caleb in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then oohlala, he was Mal in Firefly (how could they cancel that show after only 13 episodes, they’re insane!). I even loved him in that silly movie Slither. So I thought I’d give Castle a try, even though honestly, I thought the commercials looked stupid, but whatever. Castle is a best-selling mystery writer who gets permission to shadow a female cop so his mysteries can have authenticity. I think in the first episode, some of the murders are like murders that occur in his books. Then he ends up working with her on all her cases. I started watching last season. Now I’m hooked! I love this show! I stay up late on Monday nights to watch it (or I actually remember to set the recorder). It’s funny, witty, sexy. Yeah, some of the cop stuff doesn’t ring true, but for the most part, they do a good job with that. But I’m not a stickler anyway if the show is enjoyable. The mysteries are interesting, and most of the time, I can’t figure out who the bad guy is until the characters do because there are so many twists and turns. There’s great chemistry between Fillion and Katic (the cop). It’s a fun role reversal that the woman is the tough cop and the guy is more flighty. The show is funny. And even the semi-sappy stuff with Castle’s daughter is actually very good. He’s the child and she’s the parent. Part of the reason I enjoy the show is how he thinks like a writer when helping to solve the cases. It rings true to how a writer’s mind works. Like when there’s a really unique way that someone’s been murdered, Castle says, “cool.” Just like I would! I would like to see more of the poker games with his writer buddies like Michael Connelly, Sue Grafton, etc. They don’t have a poker game in every show, but I always enjoy them when they do. Just my opinion, I don’t think this is a real guy show. It’s more a girlie show. My husband doesn’t watch it with me.

If you’ve seen the show, what do you think? If you’ve got a hubby or a boyfriend, do you think they’d like it?
Oh and some blatant promotion since this is my blog, Yours for the Night, RT Top Pick, will be out on Nov 3!

Jasmine, Jennifer and JB!

Sorry, I deleted my last comment because I forgot to add my e-mail. Anyway, I love Castle, it's one of the few shows that I watch faithfully. Dancing With The Stars and NCIS being the other two. I'm really looking forward to Castle tonight because it looks great, can't wait to see them at the party together. Oh, and I would love to win the book too.

Thanks for leaving your email, Linda. That helps! It was my anniversary yesterday so instead of watching Castle, I set the timer for it! In creating yesterday's blog, I started reading a little snippet about that episode, but it was almost a spoiler! However, I'm hooked! I haven't watched Stars or NCIS, but I'll give them a try!

I don't watch Castle. Sorry!
I'm out 5 nights per week and the only prime-time show I tape is NCIS. Technically, I'm taping NCIS:LA also, but I'm still watching my May/09 tapes, so I have no idea if I like the LA version yet or not.... As for NCIS, though, I just love it! I sit on the edge of my seat with almost every show. I don't fast-forward (FF) through a single word or action - just commercials.
I tape lots of talk shows and FF through most of them. I watch the opening of Regis & Kelly and their first guest (if it's a comedian or one of my faves), and I'll FF through talks of Notre Dame and all sports, though. I check the web for who is on Oprah and The View (and I'll FF through the first half hour of chat), but I only tape those shows with guests I like. I tape Ellen daily to hear her talk when sitting at her chair, watch her make phone calls, and usually speak with her first guest. I tape lots of other talk shows too, but it doesn't take much time to watch them when I FF through so much.

Another recommendation for NCIS! All right, I'm definitely going to have to check it out!

The following was on Tawny Weber's blog this afternoon, and I thought you'd like to read it too. Have a great day!

"I just read this: Castle Lives! ABC has picked up Nathan Fillion’s murder-mystery drama for a full second season, much to the glee of Castle fans everywhere and to the dismay of at least one Whedonite hoping for a second installment of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog. (Ask Kristen – E! Online)
Happy Dancing!!!!!! And what do you want to bet they keep us hanging for that first kiss until the very last show of the season, too!?!?"

I don't miss Castle, love the show! I have it set up to record every week and yes hubby watches it with me, not his favorite but he still watches it. I can tell you another good one is The Good Wife, its new. Check it out sometime. Its on Tuesday nights at ten. Also watch NCIS, but don't care as much for the new NCIS Los Angelest.

Whoohoo, a full second season of Castle. Thanks for posting that from Tawny's blog, Laney! She's in my local RWA chapter, a great gal. And I do agree, they'll make us wait the whole season for that first sizzling kiss.

My husband tolerates it, Virginia, as yours does, but more often than not, I watch it alone. He's usually in bed before then anyway, as he gets up at 5:00 a.m. (to make me a mocha!). As for the NCIS spinoff, I've found that many of those spinoffs don't work as well. With CSI, I still like the original the best. The head guy in the Miami one, I really don't like his character at all. Ruins the whole show for me.

I've been avoiding Castle for the simple reason that I'm afraid that I'll love it and start fiending for it the way I do for NCIS!

Just can't handle another addiction in my life! I'm glad you're enjoying in though.

Jennifer Skully/Jasmine Haynes said...

I agree on not adding new addictions, Rosemary! But everyone has been talking about NCIS. So now I'm going to have to watch it! Hmm, I wonder if it's on Netflix...

Congrats Cheryl!

Hi Jas, I love Castle too, I have been following Nathan around since he was a kid on a soap. I was so mad when they cancelled Firefly too. I'm glad they made a movie, and wish they would make another one, but I doubt they will.
The poker games are great and I bet the Writers liked doing them as much as we loved seeing them. Did you see the episode last season where the cops were wearing the bullet proof vests with there identity on them, and Castle had his on with Writer on the front flap, lol. I was cracking up. Hope the show gets picked up for next year, we tape every episode and it would really make me mad if they cancel another great show. Have a great weekend. denwal1@aol.com

I hope they don't cancel the show! I love it. I'm going to have to go back to last season and look for those vests! LOL. They have some great gags. Did you watch the Halloween one last week? They definitely made a play on Firefly which was hysterical!

Talk about awesome timing!! I just got disc 3 from NEtflix of the first season of Castle. I'm enjoying it so far..Nathan Fillion is adorable and soooooo funny! The heroine is so-so, but I love him and his mom. :) Utterly cute and funny. The show is kinda like House which I enjoy as well...only a mystery! Check it out if you havn't!

So glad you like the shoes, Hotcha!

I love this new role for Nathan Fillion, Rachie. He is very funny and very different than Mal in Firefly, though I loved that, too. And I watch House, it's great!
