Great Screen Kisses

Congratulations to Maureen Emmons, you are the winner of Lord of Desire by Paula Quinn. I’ll be contacting you for your snail mail address (or you can email me on skully at skullybuzz dot com if you see this first) and mailing out your prize!

For this week, I’ve got Pitch Black by Susan Crandall, a romantic suspense. Susan is a wonderful writer. So, post a comment, (you must type in your email address) and I’ll enter you in the drawing for Susan’s book. I’ll also add you to my newsletter for updates on all the fun stuff and releases, too. I’ll announce the winner on the March 23rd blog! Good luck!

A friend of mine came over for movie night a couple of weeks ago, and we watched Cloverfield (that was for my husband) and Becoming Jane (the requisite chick flick). At the end of Becoming Jane, our hero, played by James McAvoy gives Jane the most amazing kiss. It was so good, I had to search out other movies with James McAvoy. I found Penelope. Okay, Penelope is a bit strange, it’s a fairy tale, the moral being that you need to be loved for yourself. Honestly, this was a very cute movie. And James did it again, wow, loved that kiss! So this got me to thinking about all the great movie kisses. Of course, there’s Scarlett and Rhett in Gone with the Wind, the quintessential movie kiss. And what about Colin Firth kissing Bridget in Bridget Jones’ Diary? It was the kiss AND what he says.

I could go on and on, but I’d love to hear about your favorite movie kisses, just in case I missed them!

Jasmine, Jennifer and JB!

My favorite is the kiss on the dock from The Notebook!

Yes, Teresa! I did the blog over on tote bags, and several people mentioned that one. I forgot to say it!

I definitively agree about the kiss on the dock in The Notebook.
Other movies I think has some great kisses:
The Lakehouse
The Holiday
Pride & Prejudice (2005 version)
Tristan + Isolde

A lot of people have been mentioning the kiss in The Notebook. You know what I remember the most about that movie is the present day between James Garner and Gena Rowlands. It was so poignant and so real. Plus I love James Garner.

The Phantom of the Opera (2004 version) when Christine kisses Phantom in the water while Raoul watches. In the 312 times I've watched the darn thing, my heart skips a beat every time. [grin] Although, there are other issues that come into play here as well: 1)The story itself...one woman in love with two men, the possibilities were endless. 2) Huge Gerry Butler fan.

The Whole Wide World (1996) Robert Howard and Novalyne Price are sitting side by side on the ground watching the sun set. She says something to him (I can't recall at this time), but he (Vincent D'Onofrio looking fine!) gets this look...the look on his face and turns to Novalyne (almost like he's fighting himself) and kisses her like nobody's business. Again, HUGE D'Onofrio fan. (Mystic Pizza. Come on now. Who didn't absolutely LOVE him after those bathroom scenes?)

Hi Jas, I liked the kiss in Becoming Jane also I just wish the ending was different, even though I know she never married I wanted a make believe HEA in the movie, lol. A few others that I loved were; The Notebook, The Cutting Edge(love ice skating, loved this movie), Dirty Dancing(at the end after the dance), and of course the upside down spidey kiss. denwal1@aol.com

Oh man, Dena, I really have to see the upside down Spidey kiss. You're the second or third person to mention it! And I agree on Becoming Jane, I wish it could have had a happier ending. But gee, they had to go and stick to reality!

Rita, I'm a big D'Onofrio fan, too! And I loved Mystic Pizza. Now is The Whole Wide World the one with Renee Zelweiger? Oh God, now I have to go look it up on Netflix!!!

We're all romance readers, Susan, so we must think alike! LOL.

I just watched The Ultimate Gift, and while it wasn't technically a "great screen kiss" the movie was wonderful and totally satisfying. Okay, it's a tear jerker, too.

After reading all this I want to watch The Notebook. I do like the kiss in Tristan and Isolde.

Jennifer Skully/Jasmine Haynes said...

Yes, Debby, you must watch The Notebook. Besides the kiss, it really is a wonderful movie.

One of my favorite show kisses is from Last of the Mohicans - when Hawkeye kisses Cora at the fort.

Oh yes, Martha! Last of the Mohicans is a great kiss!

I remember the kiss in Blue Lagoon starring Brooke Shields. A great first kiss! Tamsyn

I still like the kisses from the older movies. They maybe were not as hot, but you could almost get lost in them. One would have to be from Gone With the Wind- Rhett & Scarlett :)

I agree with Judy! Gone with the Wind is the Best Kiss!

You may not have really caught it, but virtually all of the great kisses mentioned have NOT been of the grasping, gasping, tearing off clothes type. Just goes to prove that imagination can be better than reality in some situations! I have to agree with the ones listed, but I think my favorite of them is Last of the Mohicans.

The Blue Lagoon, Tamsyn, yes! And you're right, Judy and Cindy, Scarlett and Rhett are timeless.

And Clynsg, you're so right, these kisses are not graphic. They are sexy because of the emotion we have about the characters involved. It's all in the buildup.

How about the kiss at the end of Bridget Jones' Diary with Colin Firth! Love that one.

Oh yeah, Cindy! I love the Bridget kiss!

Hi, Jasmine,

Most of my favorites have already been listed especially the GWTW kiss!
I'll have to think some more to find
one not listed. Only thing is, I always get a headache when I think
too much!! LOL

I love classic movie kisses like Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in Notorious, Grace Kelly and Cary Grant in To Catch A Thief, and who could forget Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard in Breakfast at Tiffany's!

I haven't really been a person that pays attention to the kisses in movies and most of the ones people have listed I haven't seen. But one movie that sticks out for me (tho I'm not real sure if it's a 'great screen Kiss' but when I think about kisses this one pops into my head) is The Princess Bride.

Don't think too much, Pat! We'll all got lots of movies to watch now.

I've got to admit I'm a classic movie buff, too, Catherine. My favorite is Laura. There's no build up to a big kiss, but there is a terrible romantic scene when he's looking at her portrait.

And Jessica, The Princess Bride is a wonderful movie, too. I do think there's a great kiss as well.

Okay, everything, thanks for dropping by. I'm off to choose the winner!

I always remember seeing Brad in Thelma and Louise, before he became a household name and face. Wow, he was quite hot in that movie, with his trademark smile.
