Goals for 2009

Congratulations to Rhonda, you are the winner of the Sci-Fi/Adventure duo by Liz Maverick and Susan Grant! Thanks for leaving your email, and I’ll be contacting you for your snail mail address.

This week I’ve got a women’s fiction duo, Sleepwalking in Daylight by Elizabeth Flock and The Memory of Water by Karen White. I’m into reading women’s fiction now because I want to write one, so these two books have seen a little bit of bathtub time, but they’re still in great shape. So, post a comment, (you must type in your email address) and I’ll enter you in the drawing. I’ll also add you to my newsletter for updates on all the fun stuff and releases, too. I’ll announce the winner next week! Good luck!

It’s almost Christmas, then my goodness, a new year! How can that be!? Time flies so fast. And I’ve been thinking about my goals for next year. Not resolutions (though I did write an anthology I really loved called Resolutions with Dee Knight, Leigh Wyndfield and Vanessa Hart) because resolutions always sound like something you’re going to break halfway through the new year. Or even in the first month. They always seem to be about kicking a bad habit, so most of them feel doomed from the start. So instead, I’m working on my 2009 goals. I just finished the first draft of Yours for the Night, my anthology about high-priced ladies of the night which will be out in Nov 2009. Yay! It’s due on Jan 31, so I have plenty of time for the rewrite and a read by my wonderful critique partners. I’ll have the proof of Fair Game to do, which arrive in stores June 2009. Then I’ve got the anthology story for the second corset book, Unbound, which I think will be out in Dec 2009. And finally, I’m going to write a women’s fiction! This will be under the Jennifer Skully name. I’ve missed writing as Jennifer. She needs to come out of the closet again, so to speak. The book is called Get What You Need, like the old Rolling Stones song. But in order to do all this, I’ve really got to cut back on the promotion time. There are days when I don’t get to my writing because I’ve got so much promotion stuff going on. Isn’t that sort of backwards, I’m a writer, not a promoter!

I’d love to hear what your goals are. We can all cheer each other on to accomplishing them!

Merry Christmas!

Jasmine, Jennifer and JB!

I love your idea of setting goals for the year instead of making a list of resolutions. The semantics can definitely change the attitude towards them.

My goal is to start my second Master's program and perhaps look into teaching a class or two as an adjunct professor.

Goals are realistic. Resolutions are too easy to break.

Merry Christmas, Jasmine!

You're both so right, Estella and Karin, it's about semantics. Goals are realistic and achievable. I wish you all the best of luck in starting that second Master's program, Karin. Very cool. What is your first masters in?

Hi Jas, I don't do resolutions and setting goals is something that everyone can do and it always is such a wonderful feeling when you accomplish one.
A few of my goals are getting our spare room all cleaned out from my daughter's stuff she still hasn't taken since she moved out and turning it into a guest, exercise, office space. Also cleaning out my closet and dresser then organizing them. denwal1@aol.com

Have a wonderful holiday everyone!

I guess I have several goals. One is to loose another 10-20 pounds. I had lost 16 before going on a 14 day cruise and putting back on half of it! My Bad!
Also, I plan to streamline my business since I want to spend more time with DH and travel in the motorcoach while the gas prices are down!
I have to get my assistant (our daughter) trained to handle the work in the office while I am away but online!

You're so right, Dena, setting goals is better than a resolution, and it does feel wonderful to accomplish them. Cleaning out! That's great. One of these days, I should make that a goal, too. I have way too many clothes!

Martha, those sound like great goals, getting healthy, spending more time with the hubby, and training your daughter! Love it!

I always try to have goal and it feels great when you have accomplished them. I do try to make my goals realistic enough to be able to accomplish. I love your books and wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

small goals that are easy to accomplish help you get toward that really big goal.

I'm glad your daughter is good at it, Debby.

Wonderful that you've got your goals, too, Sara. And thanks so much for saying you love my books. That's my Christmas present!

So, on working toward my goals, yesterday I finished the revision of story 2 & 3 in the anthology. Today I'll do story 1. Then I have to read them all through! But I think I'll do that after Christmas.

Happy Christmas Eve!

My goal for next year is to pay my credit cards off and NEVER touch them again.HA! Also, to not sweat the small stuff, life's to short and you end up missing the important things.

Thanks again for the books I won. I look forward to reading them!

Goals...hmm.

Eat more fresh fruits & veggies, go out to eat less (added bonus of saving money). I really need to lose some weight - about 40 pounds - but having that as a goal doesn't go over very well. If I can make some small changes in my eating habits and daily routine (like parking farther from the store entrance, walking to the library, stretching for the hour I'm watching House MD) maybe trying to lose weight will feel less like a chore.

As for the writing: I recently finished a novella called Open Proposal and am hoping good things come of that. Right now, I'm working on the layout for a novel-length erotic paranormal called The Secrets of Stone House and plan to begin the actual writing next month. Also in the works: three erotic novellas revolving around a chocolate shop. I have some of the layout complete on this book, though I'll really dig into it after Stone House is completed.

Great, Virginia. Good luck with the job!

Wonderful goals, Rita. You know I love to hear all the writing stuff on tap. And I the excercise, eating out less, more fruits and veggies are good goals on the way to losing the weight. It's breaking the big task down into smaller goals which are accomplishable.

Happy Day after Christmas, everyone!

Goals are much better, Susan. My friend and critique partner Jenn Cummings, who writes as leigh Wyndfield, always has us set up goals for the next year. It's really helpful to get your mind set. And eating healthy is a great goal. I'm a brocolli addict!
